Breeding new grasses

removing grass anthersChildren from Ysgol Plascrug, Aberystwyth, had a go at cross-pollinating grass flowers on a visit to IBERS, Aberystwyth University, in July. They used forceps to remove the anthers. Next they visited the new Phenomics facility to see how computers are used to measure plant growth, and then they learnt how grasses feed animals on a visit to the farm across the road. The visit was organized jointly by the Dyfi Biosphere Education Group, FACE and IBERS.
